Pushpa Celesio Children's Tuberculosis Clinic in Kolkata - providing children with a chance for a future
For a number of years Movianto, and the parent company Celesio, have been working very closely with Doctors For Developing Countries, an aid organisation which organises voluntary work of doctors and pharmacists to benefit people in the poorest regions of the world.
One of these projects is the sustainable co-operation with the Pushpa Celesio Children's Tuberculosis Clinic in Kolkata, India, which has been aiding the poorest of the poor since 2007. Movianto has supported the project since its early days. Since its foundation, the hospital has constantly been fully occupied as Tuberculosis (Tb) is a widespread disease in the slums of Kolkata. With mainly women and children being affected by the disease, there are few options for inpatient treatment.
In 2011, the Tuberculosis Clinic will be expanded to include a second level, providing the hospital with its own pharmacy, seminar rooms and a mother-child unit. The construction project requires a total investment of about 135,000 EUR.
Movianto's CEO, Alexander Paasch, began the telethon on behalf of the Movianto Group with a donation of 5,000 EUR in July 2010. The event also marked the launch of several other projects at Movianto and Celesio to support the construction project.
