Consorcio de Apoyo a la Investigación Biomédica – Plataforma Española de Ensayos Clínicos (CAIBER) [biomedical research support consortium - Spanish clinical trial platform], has selected Movianto to provide pharmaceutical logistics services for one of its multi-centre clinical trials focusing on the area of Paediatrics.

Movianto will be responsible for storing and handling the clinical trial materials and subsequently delivering them to their specified destination.

Movianto's expertise to manage the complexity involved in storing and distributing pharmaceutical, biotechnological and healthcare products was one of the decisive factors that led CAIBER to contract the company for its clincial trial storage and distribution requirements.

In this respect, Movianto will provide CAIBER with storage and transport services both at a controlled temperature of 15-25º and active cold temperature of 2-8º, which ensures the trial will not undergo any alteration. Furthermore, the rigorous checks carried out throughout the whole process by a skilled Movianto team ensure handling and documenting of each stage from receipt, storage, commissioning to transport. A second check being made to verify that the product has reached its destination, reduces the risk of loss to zero, while at the same time protecting the confidentiality of the trial.

CAIBER launched and developed various activities to sponsor the conduct of clinical trials throughout Spain in 2009. Through the Unidades Centrales de Investigación Clínica y Ensayos Clínicos (UCICEC) [central clinical research and clinical trial units], the consortium has therefore provided local support for over 200 clinical research projects involving its 40 affiliated centres. CAIBER is also coordinating four multi-centre clinical trials involving over 30 centres and more than 350 patients, and this year it presented 25 projects in the recent call for clinical trials of the Spanish Ministry of Health and Social Policy.
