Movianto supports children's tuberculosis clinic in Kolkata

11 December 2009, Stuttgart/Germany

Tuberculosis (Tb) is widespread in the slums of Kolkata in India; women and children are particularly affected by it. There are few options for inpatient treatment. Movianto is therefore supporting the Pushpa Celesio Children's Tb Clinic in the context of its Corporate Social Responsibility activities with a donation of 3,000 euros.

The Children's Tb Hospital has been permanently fully occupied since it opened in 2007. In 2004, Celesio AG, Movianto's parent company, launched a partnership with “Doctors for Developing Countries” and since then not only supports the organisation financially but also provides specialist knowledge and skills and the personal commitment of its employees. One result of this close cooperation was the Pushpa Celesio Children's Tb Clinic. Celesio and Movianto not only supported the construction of the hospital financially; they also contribute to the labour costs of the local doctors and nurses.

“My employees and I have also decided to support the project further this year. We aim to create continuity, as this offers security for the helpers and those affected by the disease” explains Thomas Creuzberger, Managing Director of Movianto Deutschland GmbH. “The ill children will each be treated by a specialist for six months and will be given school lessons at the same time.”

In young patients, tuberculosis occurs in almost all its manifestations: intestinal, peritoneal and pulmonary tuberculosis in varying grades of severity and skeletal and vertebral tuberculosis. The money donated by Movianto guarantees that the local doctors and nurses have a regular income. This safeguards professional care of the children.
