Logistics for temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals
Movianto Manages Influenza Vaccine Distribution for Solvay
in France
Stuttgart/Germany, 17 September 2007
Movianto, one of the leading European providers of logistics
and distribution services for the pharmaceuticals, biotechnology
and healthcare industry, is responsible for the distribution
of Solvay's Influvac® influenza vaccine which started
in September. Careful handling and a high degree of flexibility
are essential for the efficient distribution of the temperature-sensitive
pharmaceutical product.
Immunisation in the autumn season is an important preventive
measure against influenza epidemics and it is essential
that the distribution of the vaccine is not hindered by
bottlenecks. To ensure swift, responsive logistics, Movianto
will store the Solvay manufactured Influvac® vaccine
in its warehouse in Gonesse, on the outskirts of Paris,
and distribute it to wholesalers, pharmacies and hospitals.
At the same time, Movianto will guarantee that the cool
chain for the highly sensitive product will be maintained
at all times during storage and distribution.
"Because of its seasonal nature, the logistics of
influenza vaccine distribution means moving a high volume
of units within a narrow time window," explained Solvay
Pharmaceuticals Head of Supply Chain Process Development
Bertrand Regnauld. "We chose Movianto because they
have precisely the infrastructure in place that we need
for efficient distribution."
Since the beginning of September, Movianto began providing
cool chain logistics for approximately three million units
of the Influvac® influenza vaccine. "Our warehouse
meets the most demanding standards of the pharmaceutical
and healthcare industry," said Jean Francois Durand,
Managing Director of Movianto France. "Our specialisation
and detailed knowledge of the pharmaceuticals market enhances
our clients' supply chain efficiency and distribution flexibility,
especially with regard to product deliveries at short notice."
The Movianto Group is already performing logistics and
distribution services for Solvay subsidiaries in Denmark,
United Kingdom and Norway.
